Overview
Join us for a hands-on workshop where participants will learn the traditional craft of making rattles. This three-day session is led by experienced facilitators and offers an immersive experience in cultural practices, fostering a deep connecting with heritage and creativity.
Day 1: Traditional Crafting Techniques
Participants will be guided through the traditional methods of rattle making, learning abut the materials, tools, and techniques used by First Nation artisans. This includes:
•    Selecting and preparing materials such as wood, hides, and sinew
•    Understanding the cultural significance of each component.
•    Step-by-step instructions on the rattle crafting process.
Day 2: Cultural Significance and Storytelling
Throughout the workshop, facilitator will share the cultural stories and meanings behind the rattle. This includes:
•    The historical significance of rattles in First Nation ceremonies and daily life
•    Storytelling sessions that explain the symbolic meanings of the ornamental designs and patterns.
•    Discussions on how rattles are used in various cultural practices.
Practical Hands-On Experience
Participants will have ample hands-on time to create their own rattle. The practical sessions include:
•    Guided construction with individual attention form facilitators.
•    Techniques for stretching and securing hides.
•    Decoration and personalizing the rattles with traditional designs and patterns.

 

Day 1-3: Group Activities and Community Building
