My Story
Jim Aleck, whose mother was a member of the Tsleil-Waututh Nation, is a Cheam First Nations member, the ancestral homelands of Jim's father. Jim has been a respected knowledge keeper for over 30 years. He works in the field of addictions and counselling support, drawing on his deep cultural heritage and personal experiences. Growing up in a culturally strong family, Jim continues to practice and promote traditional ways, uplifting individuals, communities, and families through his dedication. His work emphasizes personal growth and the importance of maintaining cultural connections.

Hailing from the Cheam Band within the Sto:lo Nation In the Fraser Valley, Jim’s family has roots in both Chilliwack and Burrard Inlet, establishing a profound bond with the costal lands. With over three decades of experience in the addictions field, Jim has served in various roles across three adult treatment centers and one adolescent treatment center, working in numerous communities throughout British Columbia as a community and addictions counsellor. In 2021, he assumed co-ownership of Design Your Change Consulting Inc., alongside his wife. Together they deliver meticulously crafted workshops and training initiatives to organizations and communities throughout Western Canada.
