My Story

With over three decades of dedicated service, Deb Johnson’s professional journey has been deeply intertwined with the betterment of high-risk families and youth. For 32 years, she has been an integral part of the social fabric of Victoria, fostering positive change through her roles at the Burnside Gorge Community Center and within the esteemed Victoria School District.

Deb’s commitment extends beyond traditional roles, actively engaging in transformative work within the Downtown East Side community. Collaborating with the impactful institutions such as Potter’s Place and The Living Room, she has significantly contributed to the welfare of Aboriginal and homeless youth, ensuring their safety and empowering them to complete their high school education. Her extensive experience includes working with various Aboriginal communities as a family support worker, youth worker, and cultural worker, providing her with invaluable insights into the intricate dynamics of the communities we work with. Deb has also served as a drug and alcohol worker for the Canoe Creek community and was a dedicated youth coach for Nenganyi for three impactful years.

Recognizing the significance of holistic well-being, Deb has organized and orchestrated numerous women’s wellness gatherings tailored specifically for Aboriginal communities. These gatherings strand as a testament to her dedication to fostering not just physical health, but also emotional and cultural well-being. As a First Nations woman, Debs aspirations align fervently with supporting and uplifting Aboriginal individuals and communities. Her dedication rooted in a deep understanding of the unique challenges faced by these communities and an unyielding commitment to nurturing positive change. Her journey is one of the continuous growth, learning, and service driven by her unwavering passion for the betterment of Aboriginal lives.
